Cranberry Breakfast Smoothie


Probably because Thanksgiving is getting closer, I have really been into cranberries.  I told you I have two yummy cranberry recipes for you and this smoothie is one of them.  I promise I won’t do all smoothies but they are so good and easy!  I got this Oster personal blender for my birthday and I love it so much.  We are good friends.  It totally jives with my morning routine so it gets to stay in my house. 

Anyway, the smoothie has Greek yogurt in it so if you don’t do dairy just leave it out and add a little extra coconut milk.  I don’t mind a little extra protein.  One more smoothie thing then moving on, I added these cute little black seeds I have been reading about.  Apparently, they are super good for you.  Smoothies are an awesome way to add in little health boosters and still feel like you are having a treat for breakfast.  If I think it’s filling enough for breakfast, believe me, you will too.

So I have the best news for you!  You know how I told you I hate baking?  Well, it was bothering me that you were going to miss out on a “desserts” category in my little blog so I enlisted a great baker to help us out!  She’s been working her tail off coming up with some Paleo treats.  You guys just sit back and relax with my dishes for now, but know you’ll have Paleo desserts very soon.  You’re welcome.

Alright, so last week I left off by saying I would talk about “cheat” days.  Everyone loves to say “cheat day”, you cheaters.  Ideally, when you take on the Paleo lifestyle you are doing it to be healthy.  Losing weight is also a big plus, I know.  If you are eating foods that are bad for you all of the time then you are just hurting yourself.  In my case, my body reacts badly to inflammatory foods (the grain and sugar and such), so the less of those foods the better.  I have discovered if I can go a month to six weeks without “cheating” the world is just better for me. 

I used to say Sunday nights at our life group meetings were my “cheat” meals.  Well, that turned into I can eat whatever I want for lunch as well because that day would be ruined anyway, then the day turned into the whole weekend.  I absolutely cannot eat sugar and grain all weekend and not suffer the consequences.  So for me, after I’ve been eating all Paleo food for a month or so, I’m feeling well and performing well, then I will allow myself whatever I want.  Oh man and that is usually a cheeseburger!  What??  I can’t help it.  The key is, have the cheeseburger, enjoy every bite and DO NOT FEEL GUILTY.  The next day I’m back at it and all is well.   Any questions??

Also, in case you are beside yourself with worry, my marathon training is still going well.  Tomorrow we have a super fun track workout.  If you’re at the track tomorrow morning just look for the blur, that’ll be me (in my dreams).

Cranberry Breakfast Smoothie

  1. 1 cup unsweetened coconut milk
  2. 1 cup fresh cranberries
  3. 3 tbsp. plain, full fat Greek yogurt
  4. 1 frozen banana (sliced before freezing)
  5. 1 tsp. maple syrup
  6. pinch of black seeds (optional)
  1. Add the coconut milk and cranberries and blend until smooth.
  2. Add the rest of the ingredients and blend.
